As the UK IGU market continues to mature, manufacturers are increasingly looking overseas for opportunities to grow. For Thermoseal Group, that shift has meant more than entering new markets. It has driven improvements across manufacturing, packaging, quality control and customer service that are delivering benefits for customers both in the UK and around the world.
While exporting presents exciting opportunities, it also brings new challenges. Products travel further, customer expectations remain high and there is far less opportunity to resolve issues once goods have left the factory.
According to Mark Hickox, Sales Director at Thermoseal Group, that has encouraged the business to review every stage of its operation.
"As the UK market has matured, we've had to focus more on export markets to support our growth," he explains. "That has meant raising our standards across the board, from how we present our products to how they're packaged and transported."
For many manufacturers, packaging is often viewed as a final step in production. However, when products are travelling thousands of miles across multiple countries and climates, it becomes an essential part of protecting quality.
"Packaging that worked perfectly for deliveries within the UK wasn't always suitable for markets much further afield," says Mark. "When products are travelling to South America or other international destinations, they have to arrive in exactly the same condition they left our factory."
That attention to detail extends well beyond packaging.
Exporting has reinforced the importance of consistency throughout the manufacturing process. Every product leaving the factory must meet the same standards because replacing products or investigating issues overseas is far more complex than supporting customers closer to home.
"When a customer is only a short drive away, it's much easier to visit them, understand any issues and work together on a solution," Mark explains. "When they're a ten-hour flight away, you have to be confident you've got everything right before the product leaves the factory."
This has encouraged Thermoseal Group to place even greater emphasis on quality control and manufacturing precision.
Every stage of production is reviewed carefully, helping ensure products consistently meet the standards expected by customers across different markets.
The result is a manufacturing approach that benefits every customer, regardless of where they are based.
"The improvements we've made to support export markets have strengthened our business as a whole," says Mark. "The same processes that help us deliver products around the world also improve consistency for customers here in the UK."
This focus on continuous improvement reflects a wider trend across manufacturing.
As supply chains become more international, manufacturers are expected to deliver the same level of quality and reliability wherever their products are used. Customers want confidence that products will arrive on time, perform as expected and meet the required specification every time.
For component suppliers, that means maintaining high standards throughout production while also ensuring products are protected during transport and handling.
Consistency has become just as important as performance.
As export markets continue to grow, manufacturers also need confidence that their suppliers have the processes and infrastructure to support long-distance deliveries without compromising product quality.
For Thermoseal Group, that has meant refining existing procedures rather than changing direction.
The business continues to build on its manufacturing expertise while introducing improvements that strengthen quality, efficiency and reliability across its operations.
"Exporting has challenged us to look at every part of our business," Mark says. "Every improvement we've made has helped us become more consistent, more efficient and more focused on delivering quality."
Those improvements are helping Thermoseal Group strengthen relationships with customers in new markets while continuing to support manufacturers throughout the UK.
As demand grows internationally, the lessons learned through exporting are becoming part of everyday manufacturing.
For IGU manufacturers, that offers reassurance that the same standards applied to products travelling across the world are also being applied to every order produced for the domestic market.
"The expectation is simple," Mark concludes. "Our customers expect products to arrive in excellent condition and perform exactly as they should. Whether they're in the UK or on the other side of the world, that's the standard we set ourselves every day."
