Super Spacer® flexible spacer technology from Edgetech, a Quanex company, has been specified for one of the world’s most technically demanding curtain wall projects, the new OPPO Global Headquarters in Shenzhen, China.
Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, the landmark development features around 14,000 individually curved insulating glass units, all manufactured using Super Spacer TriSeal™ to meet the demanding performance and aesthetic requirements of the huge façade.
The decision to use Super Spacer on the project, which features a fully double-curved glass façade with varying glass shapes, was made jointly by the client, architects, façade consultants and contractors.
The project’s complex geometry required a spacer system capable of following a wide range of curved glass shapes while maintaining a reliable edge seal and long-term thermal performance. Super Spacer’s flexible construction enabled the insulating glass units to be manufactured to the exacting tightness and thermal standards demanded for the project.

Extensive testing was carried out throughout the project to validate the performance of the glazing system, including assessments of optical quality, dimensional accuracy and the ability of the insulating glass units to withstand the stresses created by curved and cold-bent glass.
