Carl F Groupco has supported a successful PAS 24 security test for Jack Aluminium’s new SD70 heritage door system, working closely with the Jack Aluminium technical team and FUHR to provide a multipoint locking solution tailored to the requirements of the system.
The collaboration brought together Carl F Groupco’s role as a key FUHR distributor, technical support provided by FUHR and Jack Aluminium’s system design knowledge. The aim was to ensure the hardware met the performance, functionality and security requirements needed for successful testing.
The project centred on the integration of FUHR’s multisafe 856 lever-operated door lock, featuring four mushroom rollers with hardened steel cams. Its lever-operation functionality allows the option of standard or heritage style lever handles. The 65mm backset door lock features serrations to allow for shootbolt extensions for taller doors or added security.
Due to the specific design of the SD70 heritage door system, the locking solution needed to work behind the floating mullion. Early-stage prototyping was therefore used to confirm fit, operation and suitability within the door system before moving into final sampling and testing.
Matt Brown, Regional Sales Manager at Carl F Groupco, worked closely with Paul Balfe, Business Development Manager at FUHR, to develop prototype keeps and underplates using 3D printed parts. These samples allowed the teams to check fit and function quickly to validate the concept before moving into final stage sampling and testing.
FUHR supplied the gearing, product samples, fit-and-function support and 3D modelling files, allowing the hardware to be accurately demonstrated within the system. This gave all parties greater technical confidence ahead of testing and ensured the locking solution was fully aligned with the door design.
Matt Brown, Regional Sales Manager at Carl F Groupco, commented: “As a key distributor of FUHR hardware, Carl F Groupco is committed to supporting customers with locking solutions that combine performance and practical installation. This project is an example of how early involvement can help move development forward, particularly when a door system has specific design requirements. By working closely with Jack Aluminium and FUHR, we were able to support the process through to successful testing.”
PAS 24 testing was attended by both Carl F Groupco and FUHR, with Matt Brown and Paul Balfe providing additional technical support on site alongside the Jack Aluminium team to help ensure the locking solution performed as required.
Paul Balfe added: “Heritage-style aluminium systems often present specific design challenges, so being able to prototype, model the fit-ups and provide technical input from the outset helped move the project forward quickly and confidently.”
Terry Hirons at Jack Aluminium added: “The support from FUHR and Carl F Groupco helped us integrate a locking solution that met the requirements of the system and supported successful PAS 24 testing. Their technical input during development was invaluable and meant the project was delivered to schedule and met performance requirements.”
