Window Widgets claim their universal load-bearing window product Jacks is an industry bestseller with fabricators and installers selling more than four-million since its launch.
Stuart Etheridge, Jacks Production Supervisor, has spent almost two decades with the leading ancillaries firm, and has become a key player in the manufacturing of its universal load-bearing window product, Jacks.
18 years ago, Stuart began his career when the company was still a very small operation, with just ten employees at the time. His initial role involved various responsibilities such as warehouse packing, working on the lathe and assisting with extrusion lines. This hands-on experience provided him with a comprehensive understanding of the manufacturing process and the various products, including DBOs, DBIs, 90° corner post trims, and PFC70 couplers.
After three years of mastering multiple roles, Stuart shifted his focus exclusively to Jacks. With the acquisition of a second lathe for capstan production, he honed his expertise in lathe operations, becoming an invaluable asset to the team.
Stuart explains the journey of Window Widgets’ best selling product: “The Jacks product line has been a staple at Window Widgets for approximately 20 years, and I have been at the forefront of its development. Initially starting with a limited range, the product line has expanded significantly to include over 50 variants, with the capability to create bespoke solutions for specific projects. Our initial goal was to design a jack that could work across multiple PVC systems. Now, we’ve evolved into offering universal products that streamline inventory and costs for our customers.
“Quality is paramount. The manufacturing process for Jacks is meticulously designed to adhere to stringent quality and safety standards. Tooling is checked after every five parts, every base is physically inspected, and the lathe is manned full-time. Each day begins with a warm-up cycle for the machines, followed by checks to ensure everything is in optimal working condition. The first product of each run is tested for precision, ensuring all measurements are within tolerance.
“The journey has not been without its challenges though. Some of the difficulties we’ve faced include when machines were run too quickly, resulting in breakdowns and increased downtime. By collaborating with the production team to slow operations, we were able to stabilise the manufacturing process, leading to consistently high-quality products.”
Stuart's journey at Window Widgets showcases not just his expertise in manufacturing but also his commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. As he continues to lead the charge in Jacks manufacturing, his dedication ensures that Window Widgets remains a trusted name in the industry.
