Emplas Hosts Popular ‘Emplas Open’

Emplas welcomed 75 guests to join them on the golf course to celebrate the second Emplas Open on June 6 at Hanbury Manor in Hertfordshire, who also raised a magnificent £13,465 for the fabricator’s chosen charity, Niamh’s Next Step (NNS).

Customers and suppliers enjoyed a challenging round of golf in sunny conditions, followed by a three-course dinner and entertainment provided by comedian Jamie Sutherland.

“Our inaugural event in 2023 was such a success that our Emplas Open has already become a firm fixture in the calendar,” Emplas Group MD Ryan Johnson said. “It’s a great way to spend time with our customers and thank them for their continuing business.

“Together we also managed to raise £13,465 for NNS. NNS founder, Chris Curry, who joined us for the day, lost his daughter Niamh to Neuroblastoma, a rare form of cancer in 2012, and set this charity up in her memory. I am proud that we were able to raise such a large sum of money.”

Neuroblastoma affects around 100 children each year in the UK. It usually affects children under the age of five, and can occur before a child is born. NNS helps raise awareness of the condition, funds vital research, and supports children, and their families, who are suffering from the effects of the disease.

The golf got underway with a shotgun start at 11am, and 19 teams set out to compete for several prizes. In addition to the team and individual prizes, there were trophies for Longest Drive, Nearest the Pin, and Beat the Pro (Chris Foster on the 16th).

After a three-course meal in Poles Hall, prizes were awarded to the following:

  • Best Dressed – Thom Emerson and David Haste (IWS)
  • Longest Drive – Josh Wyman (Newglaze)
  • Nearest to the Pin – Jamie Crimmings (WSW)
  • 1st Place Team – John Spiby, Jeremy Kemp, Ben Sorrell, and Wayne Wright (Padiham Glass) – 100 points
  • 2nd Place Team – Lee Stephens, Matthew Stephens, Robert Hilson, and David Pinder (Install Direct) – 98 points
  • 3rd Place Team – James Holloway and Bill McCartney (Worcester Trade Frames), Alex Young (Exact Windows), and Ryan Johnson (Emplas) – 93 points
  • 1st Place Individual – David Pinder (47)
  • 2nd Place Individual – James Holloway (44)
  • 3rd Place Individual – Wayne Wright (44)

The following Emplas suppliers sponsored the 18 holes on the course raising £4,500 for charity: Doorco, Avocet Hardware, The Georgian Bar Company, Glazpart, Arkay Windows, NW Metal Sections, Hurst, AluK, Epwin, Total Hardware, Window Widgets, MHA Chartered Accountants, Winmac, Cotswold Architectural Products, WAIB, Saint-Gobain, Rapierstar and Kubu.

Beat the Pro on the 16th and an evening raffle with 14 high value prizes donated by Emplas, Stuga, Epwin, Arkay Windows, More Driver Solutions, Hanbury Manor, Avantis and Rapierstar raised a further £7,165.

Following the event, KJM, Newglaze and Glazeview donated a further £1,800, taking the total to £13,465.

“Thank you to all our customers and suppliers who joined us for the annual Emplas Open, and thank you for digging deep to support the charity of our choice,” Ryan said. “We look forward to seeing you all again next year.”
